Recreation of the Gods is an epic fantasy set in the late medieval period in the world of Alvidan. As to the mythological backdrop, that comes primarily from the Norse legends of the Prose Edda - Odin reigns from his all-seeing throne; Loki schemes to bring about the cataclysm Ragnarok; and the half-blind Norns lie in their mystical realm beneath Yggdrasil’s first root, spinning out the destiny of man and god alike. But Alvidan’s cast stretches well beyond the Allfather and his historical companions, calling into question two cornerstones of the Norse tradition: the inevitability of Ragnarok, and the legitimacy of the Norns as the sole arbiters of the future.
Now, regarding the eventual triumph of good over evil, I cannot in good faith give you any such assurances, for although Alvidan is graced with magic and replete with noble champions, so too is it enslaved by its governing laws. And adherence to those laws may well invoke a cost, because the minions of evil strive with great vigor, and should their efforts dictate a grisly coursing of history, author’s whim shan’t intrude itself to forge a seemlier way.
