Background:

Were it not for Odin, our world would have succumbed long before the Triad of Light came to exist.  And as for the rumors you may have heard - the ones that paint Odin as a deceitful tyrant who reigns through treachery and force of arms - I assure you, these aspersions were cast by none other than Loki, the Master of Strife and Father of Lies. One need only look to Odin's sacrifices to get a measure of his character - the way he hung on the tree for nine days and dug his eye from its socket - sacrifices made willingly that he might gain wisdom enough to shepherd us all from doom.
